Darley Sire Epaulette was a dual Group 1 winner in Australia during his racing career (not to much a phenomenal G1 second behind Black Caviar!) and it appears he is going to be a very successful stallion too with his first crop of 2-year olds making an decent impression in 2017.
Epaulette’s runners to winners strike rate with his 2-year olds reads 31% for last season which is very impressive for a first time stallion, especially as some of his offspring do need a little time. He had several debutant winners, as well as Stakes contenders and his first Group winner.
Below are the pleasing statistics for his offspring:
McMunigal (3yo filly) Rated 102
Won a Plus 10 Bonus race first time out & followed this up with a close second in the Group 3 Killavullan Stakes at the age of 2
Regimented (3yo colt) Rated 93
Won first time out and has held his own in Class 2 company
Sankari Royale (3yo filly) Rated 93
Winner of a Plus 10 Bonus race, and was 2nd in the Listed Fillies Stakes at Newbury last summer
Rogue (3yo gelding) Rated 84
Won two races in Class 3 company on the bounce
Augenblick (3yo filly) Rated 80
Raced twice as a 2yo & won comfortably on both of her starts
Reiffa (3yo filly)
Cost 150,000 Guineas as a yearling, and won cosily first time out. She followed this up with a 2nd place in early January
Chookie Dunedin (3yo colt) Rated 91
Finished amongst a strong field in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Down under, Epaulette’s first Australian success came from 2yo filly Katy’s Daughter. She gave an eye catching win at the Gold Coast, placing herself under consideration for future Magic Million Classic races.
His second Australian success came in the form of Meryl (3yo filly) who was his first Group winner as she stormed the Group 3 Magic Millions Stakes on her second start in Australia. She also competed in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic race.
These statistics certainly bode well for our 2-year Epaulette colt who is in full-training with Gary Moore. He is out of our own Dam Lucky Dice who has been responsible for multiple winners, and Gary is the man who has trained all her offspring to victory!
He has had success with 3-time winning half sister Lightning Spirit, half brother The Shuffler won twice, and of course for not only continuing to train Good Luck Charm to win 7 races and be placed 19 times, but also to keep him sweet and in love with his racing at the age of 9. We could be in for years of fun with Lucky Dice’s final offspring!
