Our exciting National Hunt prospect for this season and beyond, 3-year old Cilaos Glace, has now commenced full training with Gary Moore. In preparation for his career as a steeplechaser, Cilaos Glace has also been learning to jump and has undertaken some cross-country schooling. All essential groundwork for what we hope will be his bright future!
With each schooling session he is becoming more confident and picks his legs up beautifully. It is so lovely to watch this boy develop! Watch his schooling video and read more about his background and his plans below.
In July 2015, Heart of the South Racing and top bloodstock agent Anthony Bromley went to the Arqana Sales in Deauville, France. After many hours of homework and vetting, and being under bid on a couple of older horses, we secured the gorgeous Cilaos Glace – our number 1 choice out of the 2-year olds.
Buying a 2-year old meant we actually bought better value, and luckily we have the facilities at home to turn youngsters out while they grown and mature.
What we also find fascinating when buying younger horses is witnessing their development. Starting off from raw individuals in a new home, watching them being broken in and accepting the bit and rider, learning their characters and quirks. These are all stages in a horse’s life often missed when buying older prospects.
Cilaos Glace is now a 3-year old, and is a well put together horse who should be ready to race in bumpers in early 2017. He has settled in beautifully to Gary Moore’s Cisswood Stables and enjoys going out on the gallops each morning to canter. Gary likes Cilaos Glace a great deal and describes him as “a good mover, with a professional attitude towards his work.”
