Want to own your own racehorse but prefer the experience to be professionally managed? Are you a small group of friends who want to form a partnership but don’t know where to start? If the answer is yes then Heart of the South Racing can help. Read about the success story of Guns of Leros to find out more.
In 2014, we were approached by one of our existing owners Paul Hunt about purchasing and managing a racehorse for him. After purchasing the horse in question at the Tattersalls Breeze Up Sales, we went about making ownership experience a pleasurable one for Paul (who travels a great deal) by ensuring all the registrations are completed and updates regarding his horse are thorough and prompt. He also receives regular work videos from the gallops and race day hospitality is arranged if required.
Things could certainly not be going better for both horse and owner! The now 4-year old gelding Guns of Leros has come on hugely from a green 2-year old colt, to a progressive 3-time winner rated 90. Since stepping up in trip to 1 mile 4 furlongs, this horse has been fantastic and we cannot wait to see what he can do over further. Trainer Gary Moore feels he could be an Ebor horse this season and Paul is enjoying the experience so much plans are already in place to revisit the Craven Breeze Up Sales in 2017 to purchase his next dream horse.
Your first winner as an owner – whether partnership or sole – is something you will never forget but it was particularly special for Paul to see his flashy black and yellow colours first past the post at Salisbury in July 2016 (then at Goodwood, and again in the Apprentice’s Derby at Epsom!)
We are always happy to discuss managing a horse for a sole owner or a group of friends/colleagues. For just a small administration charge, why not let us take away the hassle of owning a racehorse and be rest assured you remain fully updated on your horse’s progress, hiccups and race plans no matter how busy your trainer is.
