Heart of the South Racing is delighted to reunite our partnership with our Group winning trainer Marco Botti – this time with a smart and precocious yearling colt by Dubawi Legend.
The relationship between HOTSR and Marco is well established and commenced in 2013 and resulted in 100-rated Sir Robert Cheval – who won 3 races and came 2nd at Ascot in a Listed contest. After a few more moments in the Winners Enclosure with a number of horses, the ownership dream really came to fruition with a yearling Marco purchased for us from Tattersalls Book 1 Yearling Sale for just 38,000gns – dual Group winner Raven’s Lady! Not only did we enjoy 6 spectacular wins with this filly, including Group successes at York and Baden-Baden, once her racing days came to an end she was sold for a cool 350,000gns – a lovely return for her delighted owners!
The Raven’s Lady success story is a dream we’d love to replicate one day, however having a horse in training with Marco is more than that. It’s the personalised touch and friendly welcome when you visit the yard and it’s open access policy, it’s the race planning and the attention to detail, it’s the honest advice on whether to keep or sell your horse.
The syndicate specification with this new colt does differ slightly to HOTSR’s usual business model (in that we typically opt to buy more backward types that need time but provide ownership longevity) but on this occasion we’ve tried to play into Marco’s main strengths: Buying value and selling optimally.
Alongside his well respected Bloodstock Adviser Warren Trippick (who was fundamental in the purchase of Italian Derby winner Molveno) the pair scoured the sales catalogues looking for value from interesting types with young pedigrees but with proven crosses throughout the bloodline. Moreover as these offspring tend to be less ‘fashionable’ than the likes of current popular sires such as Space Blues/Sea The Stars, they can get overlooked and that’s where the value lies.
Horseracing in many ways is one big gamble, and being involved in these unknown types where anything could be possible is certainly a gamble in itself, but also another element of thrill within the ownership journey.
If you fancy taking the plunge and becoming an owner for a respectable outlay, please do consider our Dubawi Legend yearling colt. He is smart, correct, precocious and if the gamble on his young pedigree comes to fruition, it really could be the ownership experience you’ve always dreamed of.
