Another horse we have had to retire in 2024 is 2-time chase winner Walk In The Wild.
Since purchasing him with Oliver Sherwood he’s been such a gorgeous horse to be involved with! He’s always had the most kindest of temperament for such a gigantic horse and we really enjoyed the whole process of buying him, seeing him in pre-training, and getting his bumper/hurdling campaign underway with Oliver Sherwood.
He certainly showed promise with Oliver but his Owners made the decision to try a different training approach and new environment so he joined Gary Moore’s yard in the summer of 2022.
Walk In The Wild certainly summered well and was quickly schooled up over fences with Gary. He made his chasing debut in November 2022 at Lingfield Park and it was a winning one! The horse relished the heavy/wet conditions and followed this up 2 weeks later with another win at the course! He ran further creditable races since his wins but ideally just wanted the ground to be as boggy as possible!
This season Walk In The Wild hasn’t perhaps quite been the same. He wasn’t attacking his fences with the same gusto we’ve seen before and despite a change in headgear, we did question whether or not this gentle giant was still in love with his job. Therefore, after racing at Chepstow in April his Owners made the decision to retire him.
We aren’t surprised however that Walk In The Wild wasn’t waiting long for his forever home! He was snapped up quickly by a friend of one of his syndicate Owners who fell in love with his looks and temperament. Walk In The Wild will now be based in Bristol where he will have the summer of before enjoying some Point to Pointing, hunting and possibly Hunter Chases.
We wish him a long and very happy retirement!
