Last week the HOTSR team said a fond farewell to one of our long-standing owners, Dick Dale.
At the wonderful age of 91, Dick passed away over Christmas and is so very dearly missed by his family, friends and many in the racing community.
With a life devoted to farming (where he won awards) and a passion for horseracing, Dick and his family have been racing owners for many years and joined HOTSR in 2007. Together they have enjoyed many ownership ventures with us, which includes regular winners South Cape, Good Luck Charm & Aiguillette and more recently 3yo Alpha Crucis.
Interestingly Dick’s father David Dale was an ex-jockey and in 1922 became known as the “Miracle Man” thanks to his ability of rehabilitate injured racehorses. David felt this was due to a special clay treatment to horse’s legs and the use of seawater at his stables in Tide Mills near Newhaven in East Sussex. Dick also rode out some of the horses until a fall when riding to the local pub!
Dick’s love of horses never waivered throughout his long life and he was a regularly welcomed visitor to Gary Moore’s Cisswood Stables (always with a large sack of carrots!) His visits and stories are one’s we will cherish forever.
Thank you Dick for all the memories, we hope you and South Cape are having fun together up there! x
