Most racing fans will have heard of our little legend Fruity O’Rooney. He is well known for his front running, gutsy performances and has been described by many as “a small horse with a heart of a lion!”
12-year old Fruity has had a sensational career. He has competed in 50 races, won 8 of them, been placed 21 times, won £110,000 in prize money and has provided his owners with some fantastic days out at the races. Favourites of ours include; The Cheltenham Festival (Fruity finished 2nd after leading all the way), SkyBet Chase at Doncaster (finished 3rd despite a slipped saddle), Scottish Grand National at Ayr (finished 5th after leading for just over 4 miles), The Hennessy Gold Cup (Fruity finished 7th after leading most of the way) and several respectable performances at Ascot, Fontwell Park and Sandown Park.
Fruity O’Rooney is now enjoying a very happy retirement with his new Owner Beccy. The pair have been to cross country events with Fruity has excelled and he has even had a go at dressage! One of Fruity’s racing owners Ann Tyrrell thought it would be nice to write a book all about the horse – his background, his races, his owners and also his amazing quirky character. It is written from Fruity’s point of view and tells a fabulous story, from beginning to near end. It also give insights into the Moore family and in particular Gary’s approach to training which is fascinating in itself. We would like to say a huge thank you to Ann for all the time, research and love that has gone into this fantastic read.
