13th March 2012, Jockey Jamie Moore
There were heroic scenes on Day one of the 2012 Cheltenham from Fruity O’Rooney – our very own superstar!
Leading all the way, this brave little horse did not put a foot wrong and gave it everything from start to finish. He fought off some very nice horses and once over the last fence we were screaming for Fruity to hold on for the win. However he just got caught out on the run in by Alfie Sherrin and finished a close second but it was a very credible run from Fruity O’Rooney and a fantastic day at the races for all involved.
Jockey Jamie Moore rode a great race and the following day said “The first thing I did this morning was pat my dear friend Fruity. He could not have given anything more yesterday and I couldn’t either. He finished with his ears pricked and I’m just gutted not to have won but there will be another day for him I’m sure.”
This was certainly Fruity O’Rooney’s best run to date and he rose to the occasion with gritty determination, showing everyone he is indeed a top-class chaser.
