Whilst we love watching our horses race, a huge part of our job is doing what is right by them when the time comes for their racing careers to reach an end and we feel we are doing just that for the lovely Latin Knight.
Latin Knight was a late developer who did not begin racing until the age of 4. His Owners were incredibly patient so we were thrilled for them when this horse finished an encouraging 2nd behind the progressive 4-time winner Omnivega on debut. He was poised to win next time out but a slipped saddle meant we had to settle for 4th place.
We stuck to the AW once racing returned in June due to the ground and Latin Knight ran some respectable races on return to Kempton Park. He looked to be progressing with each race so it was devastating to see him sustain a career ending injury when pulling up on his last start.
Whilst there were several opinions as to what to do for the best for the horse moving forward, here at Heart of the South Racing we are not one for giving up on horses and we have taken a chance on Latin Knight . He will receive all the time he needs to recuperate (not to mention endless amount of love, cuddles and carrots!) at our yard in Framfield before we look to re-home him.
He has settled into his new temporary home very well and is such a kind-natured horse! He can start to enjoy small turnout from November and his recuperation is going as expected as this stage. All being well we hope to be able to find Latin Knight a forever home when the time comes.
