Alpha Crucis is an imposing 2-time winning 4-year old in training with Gary & Josh Moore, based in Horsham West Sussex and he looks set for further improvement in 2024!
He is by Group 1 Derby winner Australia who won 5 races during his career and has been a hugely successful Sire responsible for the likes of Broome, Order Of Australia and Bangkok to name but a few. The Dam Night Fairy is appealing too – a winner over 1m2f and regularly placed. She has produced several winning foals including Group 3 Chartwell Stakes winner Majestic Queen, bumper winner Fair Star, and debutant winner Stars So Bright.
We were not only attracted to Alpha Crucis’ pedigree and his conformation (he has a deep jaw, strong body, is very correct, an athletic walk and plenty of scope to grow & strengthen further) but also his hammer price when we purchased him at the Tattersalls Breeze up Sales and he’s proving to be very good value.
Alpha Crucis made his debut as a 2-year old at Ascot before showing he’d evidently learnt from the experience when running much better at Kempton on his subsequent run and again at Newmarket to finish 3rd at a huge 300/1 in October 2022! He was then given a winters break to really strengthen up and he improved hugely both mentally and physically.
The 2023 season for Alpha Crucis could not have got off to a better start when returning to the turf over 1m at Windsor on soft ground and winning for the first time in front of his elated Owners! He followed this up with a brilliant 2nd at Epsom just 8 days later before having a quieter time over the summer due to the fast ground/a niggly setback.
Alpha Crucis’ Owners had been incredibly patient and it was such a day full of emotion at Goodwood on 15th October when reunited with Jason Watson and soft ground under his hooves the young horse won for the second time in 2023! It was a huge well done to the team at home for getting the horse in top condition for this race and we were encouraged to see him round off the season with a decent run in a competitive Class 3 at Newmarket.
Alpha Crucis enjoyed a decent break over the winter before returning to Cisswood Stables looking much stronger. His seasonal debut target had been the Lincoln Handicap for quite some time and we were so pleased to not only have him ready for this race, but also to see the ground description reading soft! Alpha Crucis ran the race of his life and under a great ride from Anna Gibson, the horse travelled strong, LOVED the ground and went onto finish 4th. He wasn’t quite as fortunate to have the soft conditions on his consequent run at Newbury but still run a creditable race in the Spring Cup.

Australia by Galileo
Australia had a fantastic racing career winning a total of 5 races. He won on the second start of his career over 7f before going onto win the Group 3 Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf Trial Stakes over 1m at the age of 2. As a 3yo he was a Group 1 Derby winner, 3rd in the Group 1 2000 Guineas (beaten just 3/4L) and a Group 1 Irish Derby winner. He also won the Group 1 Juddmonte International Stakes at York at the age of 4 before finishing 2nd in the Group 1 Irish Champion Stakes.
He has a 47% success strike rate with his flat offspring and also has a good record over jumps with hurdle winner Lord Lamington, 2-time hurdle winner Metal Man and hurdle winner Fraser Island.
Night Fairy by Danehill
Night Fairy was a 1m2f winner who went onto be a decent Broodmare. She has produced many winners, many of whom have gone onto do well at stud themselves including Majestic Queen who won on her debut at 2 before going onto win 4 more times, twice at Group 3 level. She retired to stud to produce 4-time Black Type winner Maria Amalia.
5yo Lincoln Bright raced from the age of 3 and was placed in a Listed race, 6yo Fair Star won on bumper debut at 3 before going onto win 2 more times and is still racing today, Starts So Bright was a debutant winner at 3 over 1m.
Group winner Order of Australia (by Australia and also out of a Danehill Mare) shows the cross can work and we are dreaming it can work again!
