Cilaos Glace (aka Booty) is a horse that the team at HOTSR, his Owners and Oliver Sherwood’s team are incredibly fond of. We purchased Booty as a 2yo store horse at the 2015 Arqana Deauville Summer Mixed Sale alongside Anthony Bromley and it has been one rollercoaster experience with him!
Booty was given lots of time as a youngster and spent his early part of his life out in the paddocks at Beggars Barn. He was given the nicknamed Booty after he had such a strong resemblance to Black Beauty but Eloise’s youngest daughter could not say Beauty, instead Booty and the name has just stuck! Booty was always very forward going with his pre-training and he really enjoyed a cross-country schooling session at Coombelands showing real athleticism.
He arrived originally at Gary Moore’s yard in the summer of 2016 and really did catch the eye as he flew up the gallops. It didn’t take long before he had 10 exciting Owners in his syndicate who all attended when he made his debut in a bumper at Kempton Park in March 2018. We didn’t quite predict however how keen Booty would be (as he is so relaxed at home) and he pulled for about 3/4 of the race before understandably getting tired.
Unfortunately he then picked up a few niggly injuries (mainly due to his size and him continuing to grow) and Owners felt perhaps a yard with a swimming pool would be beneficial so he moved to Oliver Sherwood’s in late 2018.
Booty had one of the most fantastic relationships with ex NH jockey Leighton Aspell and he really did know how to get the best out of the horse. On his 4th start for Oliver Booty gave a brilliant performance to win for the first time over hurdles at Fontwell Park by a huge 33 lengths. He followed this up with another triumph in heavy ground at Chepstow 21 days later and we were thrilled for all involved! It’s safe to say however Booty had his niggles along the way and his Owners have given a lot of patience. It looked to pay off however when his chasing career came together and after a 2nd at Fontwell Park in 2021 Booty scored for the first time over fences under a confident ride from Tom Cannon.
However this season it would appear that whilst skeletally Booty was over his immaturity issues, mentally his head just was not longer in the game so he was retired in January 2023. He has now found a fantastic home not too far from Lambourn with Caroline who has completely fallen in love. She plans to give him a break before he tries team chasing – something he is sure to love!
We couldn’t be happier to have found Booty a 5* home and would like to thank his incredibly loyal and patient Owners, Oliver and his team and vet for all of their work and of course Booty who has been a fun horse to be involved with over the last 8 years!
