King Of Ithaca is a 2-time winning 4-year old by Group 1 winner Ulysses who is in training with Newmarket based training James Tate who has got this horse right back to form!
Purchased at the Tattersalls Book 3 Yearling Sales, this flashy horse is a well put together individual by popular Stallion Ulysses who won 5 races in total including two iconic Group 1 races – Group 1 Coral Eclipse and Group 1 Juddmonte International Stakes before retiring to stud in 2017. He has proved to be an attractive Stallion producing Royal Ascot winner Holloway Boy, Listed winner Mighty Ulysses and Group 3 winner Piz Badile.
The Dam Rhagori was a winner of 4 races who was sold at the Keeneland November foal & mare sales for a cool $230,000. She has been a successful Dam will all 3 of her offspring being winners. Read more about her below.
King Of Ithaca’s original trainer Marco Botti was attracted to the horse’s pedigree in particular as he knows the family extremely well having trained the winning half brother Aljari (rated 95.) The horse (just like his brother) was a little tricky to train so it was great to see it all come together on his 3rd start at Chelmsford on 8th September when he won for the first time in a decisive fashion!
We have always held King Of Ithaca in high regard, however in the early part of 2023 he lost his form on the track so his Owners made the decision for the horse to experience a change of scenery and routine and he moved down the road to James Tate who is an experienced trainer with turnout space, a quiet yard and plenty of veterinary experience.
James spent a few weeks changing up King Of Ithaca’s routine and teaching him to settle and enjoy his job again! The horse also gained a decent amount of weight as well as some turnout time the majority of afternoons. Therefore, we couldn’t have been happier to see a much improved run from him on his debut for the Tate yard in August at Kempton where he finished 3rd. The horse followed this up with a 2nd at Kempton Park before returning there again in September to win for the second time of his career!
We were absolutely delighted for everyone involved and it has been great to see the horse return to form with a 3-2-1-3 with his new trainer! King Of Ithaca is now enjoying a short winters break and we expect to see a stronger horse back on the track in Spring 2024.

Ulysses by Galileo
Ulysses was a 5-time winner at Group level who was extremely consistent during his career. He was a winner over 8-12 furlongs and is by no other than the legendary Galileo.
His first crop of 2-year olds are in 2021 and he has already had 16 winners including Piz Badile (2nd in a Group 3 too), Mr Alan (4th in Listed Prix Isonomy), Cave Diver and 3-time winner Odisseo who Marco trains.
In 2021 his yearlings made up to 300,000gns with the average for colts 74,000gns.
Rhagori by Perugino
Rhagori was a 4-time winning Dam who was placed 7 times from 18 starts so she too was a consistent mare.
She has produced 3 foals of racing age, all of which have been winners. Aljari was trained by Marco Botti and won 4 races (one at Class 2 level!), Haykal (3yo) was a winner earlier on this year and Spinning Mist won twice in France at the age of 2.
