We are delighted to have this exciting son of dual Group 1 winner Ulysses, newly named King Of Ithaca, joining the Heart of the South Racing string!
This handsome colt was purchased at the Tattersalls Book 3 Yearling Sales and is a well put together individual who is forward going with his training. He is in training with top Newmarket trainer Marco Botti.
Ulysses is a popular Stallion who we thoroughly enjoyed watching throughout his racing career. He won 5 races in total including two iconic Group 1 races – Group 1 Coral Eclipse and Group 1 Juddmonte International Stakes before retiring to stud in 2017. He has proved to be an attractive Stallion with his first crop of 2-year olds racing in 2021. He has enjoyed 37 runners, 16 of whom have won, giving him a hugely impressive 38% success strike rate with his 2-year olds.
The Dam Rhagori was a winner of 4 races over 7-10 furlongs who competed at Stakes level. She finished 2nd in a £21,000 race in America and was sold at the Keeneland November foal & mare sales for a cool $230,000. She has been a successful Dam will all 3 of her offspring being winners. Read more about her below.
Trainer Marco Botti was not only attracted to King Of Ithaca’s pedigree, but also his conformation and feels he could well be the bargain of the Book 3 sale. Marco knows the family extremely well having trained the winning half brother Aljari (rated 95) and has decided to retain 25% of the horse.
King Of Ithaca has quickly adapted to the busy Newmarket routine extremely well and is excelling with his training. He is cantering up Warren Hill daily, moving beautifully and really flicking his toe out! Marco says he has a fantastic mind for a young horse and he is set to move over to the grass gallop in March.
Marco expects him to be a 7-furlong horse as a 2yo, stepping up to a mile+ at 3. He holds an early closing entry in the £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes (Class 2) in October!

Ulysses by Galileo
Ulysses was a 5-time winner at Group level who was extremely consistent during his career. He was a winner over 8-12 furlongs and is by no other than the legendary Galileo.
His first crop of 2-year olds are in 2021 and he has already had 16 winners including Piz Badile (2nd in a Group 3 too), Mr Alan (4th in Listed Prix Isonomy), Cave Diver and 3-time winner Odisseo who Marco trains.
In 2021 his yearlings made up to 300,000gns with the average for colts 74,000gns.
Rhagori by Perugino
Rhagori was a 4-time winning Dam who was placed 7 times from 18 starts so she too was a consistent mare.
She has produced 3 foals of racing age, all of which have been winners. Aljari was trained by Marco Botti and won 4 races (one at Class 2 level!), Haykal (3yo) was a winner earlier on this year and Spinning Mist won twice in France at the age of 2.
