After the phenomenal response from our two new NH horses launched in April, we are delighted to announce our 3rd and final new NH horse for the 22/23 season – a handsome son of the proven National Hunt sire Court Cave, in training with Lambourn based trainer Oliver Sherwood.
This unraced 3-year old was purchased at the Goffs Spring Store Sale in May by top bloodstock agent Anthony Bromley after his breeding and conformation caught their eye. He is very much a typical Oliver horse – very well put together with bags of scope and an athletic walk. Quote from Anthony below.
The sire Court Cave was unraced himself but is from one of the best Stallion pedigrees being a full brother to Group 1 winner Beat Hollow, a half brother to 4-time winner Yaralino and the second Dam Bahamian includes Group 1 Sires Reefscape, Oasis Dream and Coastal Path within the family. His Dam Wemyss Bight is a Group 2 winner who also finished 5th in The Oaks.
Court Cave is already proving to be a very popular NH Stallion with his 3yo stores selling up to 120,000 Euros thanks to a hugely impressive 44% NH strike rate. Offspring include Grade 2 Cheltenham Festival winner Mister Whitaker, Grade 3 winner Court Minstrel, and Oliver’s very own 8-time winner Jersey Bean. Unsurprisingly Court Cave is a sire Oliver really likes. The Dam Alexander Road is a 3-time hurdle winner on soft and heavy ground. She has produced 6 foals with the most successful being hurdle and 2-time chase winner Shanty Alley (rated 132.)
This un-named youngster is currently undertaking pre-training where he is learning the ropes of riding. He is a tough individual with a forward attitude who can be quite a lad at times but Oliver feels has heaps of potential.
The plan is to continue his pre-training until early August followed by a short paddock break. He will then restart ridden work before moving to Oliver’s yard to commence full training in October ahead of making his debut in bumpers this winter.
Tessie Greatrex and I really like this youngster and he had great athleticism. He is by a good proven sire in Court Cave (Tessie bought Cheltenham Festival winner Willoughby Court as a store) and his Dam won 3 hurdle races consecutively for Donald McCain and was rated 128. The fact that she has already produced a decent staying jumper in Shanty Alley (3 wins and placed off 132 over fences) is another good plus point & he comes from a really good French female family too. Given the amazing trade at the subsequent Land Rover and Derby store sales, he now looks incredible value and I wish you all the best with him.

Court Cave by Sadler’s Wells
Court Cave was unraced due to an injury to his fetlock as a 2yo. However being extremely well bred his Juddmonte Owners felt he would do well at Stud and indeed he has! He stands at Boardsmill Stud (who stand Group 1 winner Poet’s Word too) and has produced a number of eye-catching National Hunt prospects.
To name a few include Grade 1 Cheltenham Festival Winner City Island and Willoughby Court, 2 Cheltenham Festival winner Mister Whitaker, Grade 3 winner Court Minstrel, Desirable Court (Listed winner), Champion Court (multiple Group 2 winner at Cheltenham) and recent hurdle winners Caspers Court, Motion In Lemine and Glen Ava.
Alexander Road by Kaldounevees
The Dam is a 3-time hurdle winner over 2m4f-3 miles and she raced 2 years before retiring to stud. She has produced 6 foals including Shanty Alley (8yo) who has one 3 times over jumps and been placed 5 times, a 2yo filly by Kalanisi and a yearling colt by Poet’s Word.
Her sire Kaldounevees is a dual Group 3 winner over a mile and has been placed in a Group 1 in America and Germany.
