Reckon I’m Hot is an exciting sprinter by Group winner Hot Streak, in training with Gary Moore. He is out of a Black Type winning mare rated 101, has ran some creditable races in 2021 against some very nice types and is handicapped to win races in 2022.
Reckon I’m Hot excelled with his pre-training, and slotted straight into full training at the start of the year. He made his racecourse debut in a hot maiden race at Newbury in April where he showed true professionalism. Quick out the gates and racing perfectly straight, Reckon I’m Hot travelled well for a long way before getting tired in the closing stages (to be expected for a youngster trained by Gary as he does not believe overdoing horses first time out.) He followed this up with an encouraging 5th at Lingfield Park in May.
Reckon I’m Hot has such a willing and genuine attitude and he is really starting to shape up into a proper sprinter, especially after his gelding operation. It was great to see him finish things off strongly when dropping back to a more suitable 5f at Chelmsford, but ultimately Gary feels the young horse needs a little more time to mature. Therefore he enjoyed a short winters holiday to strengthen up and is now back at Cisswood Stables.
Gary feels the horse has improved for a winters break and we were thrilled to see that transferred on the track when he finished a very close second at Lingfield Park on 25th February. The little horse gave his all and hopefully he can go one better next time!
Pedigree
Hot Streak was the fastest 2yo of his generation who won on debut, followed by a win in a Listed contest at the Ebor Festival and then the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes at Ascot by an impressive 5 lengths. He wrapped up his 2-year old season with a close 2nd in a Group 1 at Newmarket and with a mark of 125 which was comfortably the best time rating recorded by a 2yo, matched only by Frankel in recent seasons. Hot Streak continued to progress at the age of 3 winning the Group 2 Temple Stakes at Haydock Park and finishing a close 3rd in the Group 1 Kings Stand at Royal Ascot.
He retired to stud duties in 2016 and his second crop of 2-year olds have an eye-catching 23% winners to runners strike rate in 2020. His offspring are now beginning to make their mark on the track thanks to Listed winner Flaming Princess, 2yo winners Hot Touch, Between Hills and Winning Streak as well as 3-time winner Hot Scoop.
The pedigree is very speedy on the Dam’s side too, with Black Type winner Dark Reckoning winning 3 races throughout her career over 5 and 6 furlongs including the Group 3 William Hill Firth Of Clyde Stakes at the age of 2. She has produced 3 other foals including frequent Bahrain runner Moons Of Saturn and 2yo filly Red Carpet Queen who has been placed 3 times over 5f.
Her Sire is the phenomenal dual Kings Stand Stakes winner Equiano and her Dam Impressible is a 5-time winner herself. This colt’s pedigree is speed through and through and he is aptly given the stable name “Bolt” as a yearling due to his paddock sprinting tendencies!
