Owning a National Hunt horse with Gary Moore is always our most common enquiry (and with many notable successes with his National Hunt string and such a friendly yard it comes as no surprise), and we are thrilled to have a promising National Hunt prospect by German Derby winner Sea The Moon.
The horse in question is un-raced 5yo Riohacha who was purchased at the Arqana Mixed Sales in France by Gary and his Bloodstock agent Nicholas Bertran de Balanda (who also purchased the Gary Moore trained impressive Grade 2 winning Goshen!) Gary was not only attracted to Riohacha’s excellent breeding but also his substance. He feels the horse is “a real athletic type, with plenty of bone and looks every bit a chaser in the making.”
His Sire Sea The Moon was a comfortable winner of the German Derby and he was leading Sire in Europe in 2020. He sired 25 Black Type horses, including Group 1 Coronation Stakes winner Alpine Star and is responsible for Grade 1 winner Allmankind and imposing 2-time winning 5yo Must See The Doc . Despite the Dam Beyond The Dream being un-raced, she has been a successful Broodmare producing 5 winners (read more about them below) and the Grand Dam is a French Classic winner!
Riohacha arrived from France early in 2020 and soon settled into the routine at Gary Moore’s Stables. He has so much scope, is built to jump a fence and moves so well covering a massive amount of ground with each stride and whilst physically he looks impressive, he is still an immature horse that has required some time. Riohacha certainly shows plenty on the gallops at home and we do believe he is a horse worth waiting for – hopefully this autumn is when we will see him on the track.

Sea The Moon by Sea The Stars
Sea The Moon won 4 consecutive races, 3 of which were at Group level and he was a cosy 11 length winner of the Germany Derby. He also finished 2nd in a Group 1 in Baden-Baden.
Considering young Sire Sea The Moon has only two crops of racing age – they have done very well! He is responsible for Group 1 Coronation Stakes winner Alpine Star, Group 3 1000 Guineas Trial winner Hamariyna, Grade 1 hurdle winner Allmankind and Pondus who has been frequently placed in Group/Listed races.
Riohacha is the great-grandson of the phenomenal miler and producer Miesque and is therefore related to Kingmambo, Tapestry and Study Of Man to name a few!
Beyond The Dream by Fusaichi Pegasus
Beyond The Dream was unraced but has been a decent Dam, producing 8 foals of racing age – 5 of which are winners! Los Cabos has raced over hurdles and won on the flat, Barbara won 4 races and has been frequently placed over 9-12f, Bagira is a winner, Numqueteba won a 40,000 Euro race in Spain and was placed in a Listed race. Whilst Bailley ran respectably in Group/Listed company.
Her Sire Fusaichi Pegasus was the Kentucky Derby winner and had a 26% success rate with National Hunt horses. The Dam East Of the Moon was a 3-time Group 1 winner and has produced many Black Type horses including Helike, Canda, Moon Driver and Mojave Moon.
