Spirit D’Aunou is in training with Gary & Josh Moore and has been a fabulous NH horse with 5 victories under his belt, alongside some decent runs at the higher level.
This athletic 6yo was purchased in France by Gary and his Bloodstock agent whom buys the majority of Gary’s successful NH string, and he came on recommendation from top French jockey Felix De Giles. Spirit D’Aunou is by dual Group 2 winner Triple Threat who was one of the best 3-year olds of his generation in France and whilst he is a relatively new Stallion he has produced a decent amount of NH winners already!
Spirit D’Aunou arrived from France at Gary Moore’s yard in summer 2022 and after a maturity break he progressed really positively with his training and schooling. He made his racecourse debut over hurdles at Kempton Park on 21st November and despite taking quite a nasty bump at the first flight, Spirit D’Aunou showed great heart to finish 2nd. Evidently the young horse had learnt from his first race and the National Hunt Introductory Hurdle races were benefitting him as he won his first race 13 days later at Huntingdon, followed by 3 more wins in his first season!
Spirit D’Aunou did incredibly well for his first summers break in the UK and returned to action a much more developed horse! He ran with credit in a competitive Class 2 hurdle race at Cheltenham in October to finish 4th before giving arguably his best win to date to win at Sandown Park’s Tingle Creek meeting on 9th December 2023! We perhaps paid the price for this win when going up 10lbs and then having to race the majority of the season carrying top weight(!), but it was lovely to see Spirit D’Aunou shape with promise when stepped up in trip at Aintree last April to finish 5th.
Once again the horse looks very strong heading into his 2024/25 campaign, and whilst it was very unlike him to have incurred a fall and then ran disappointingly at Sandown, we were pleased to see him bounce back into the winners enclosure at Newbury last time out. He certainly looks to want further in trip now and we are sure he will be back to winning ways again soon!
