Storm Free has been a very exciting horse for 2024 with two second placed finishes from 3 starts! He’s in training with James Tate, in Newmarket, and looks to have huge potential for 2025 and beyond.
Storm Free is by 7-time and Group winning Iffraaj who needs no introduction as a stallion having produced some great horses during his stud career (4-time Group 1 winner Ribchester, progressive Graded winner My Prospero, Group 1 winner Wootton Bassett and Group 2 Temple Stakes winner Hot Streak!) The Dam La Napoule was a 6f winner and is a full sister to La Cucaracha who is a 7-time winner including the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes. La Napoule has produced 4 foals, all of which are winners in the UK and abroad and have secured 13 wins and 19 placed finishes between them!
Newmarket based trainer James Tate is someone who HOTSR started working with in 2023 and things couldn’t have got off to a better start! He is a methodical trainer with a high level of attention to detail and views horses from a trainers and vets perspective (he is a qualified vet.)
Storm Free has been very straightforward to train and made his debut in August at Newmarket. He was a little like a rabbit caught in headlights and gave away lots of ground at the start but evidently he’d learnt plenty when finishing 2nd on his subsequent run at Kempton. He followed this up with a fast closing 2nd at Chelmsford in October (where he probably should of won) and showed a very dangerous turn of foot. The future looks very bright for him and now rated 83, he has the potential to make a nice Saturday horse in 2025.

Iffraaj by Pastorale
Iffraaj was a winner of 7 races throughout his 3 year career. He won during the back end of his 2yo career before winning 4 times during the age of 4 including the Group 2 GNER Park Stakes at Doncaster. He moved trainers in late 2005 and finished a close 2nd in the Group 1 Darley Cup before winning the Group 2 Lennox Stakes at Goodwood and the Group 2 GNER Park Stakes at York.
Since retiring to Stud he’s been a phenomenal stallion and he’s produced from champion juveniles to champion milers! Some of his best offspring have been Ribchester, Gingernuts, Turn Me Loose, Jungle Cat and Chriselliam.
La Napoule by Piccolo
La Napoule was a winner and placed over 6 furlongs before she retired to stud where she’s been an excellent mare. Her 4 foals have all been winners and this definitely bodes well for this lad – they include 5-time winner Streaker, 4-time winner Aunt Agatha, 3-time winner Tyndrum Gold (who won recently and is now rated 91) and 5f winner Peggy Sioux (rated 86) – 13 wins and 19 placed finishes between them.
