Our recent trip to Deauville in France, with the highly respected bloodstock agent Anthony Bromley, proved to be a success in a number of ways. Not only did we purchase a gorgeous NH prospect for the future, the relationship between ourselves and Anthony was secured and plans are already in place to buy more horses with his expertise.
As nearly all owners reading this post will know, Heart of the South has been looking to buy a nice National Hunt horse for some time. Over the last two years, we have been to the sales on five occasions looking to spend decent money on a decent sort, but have always come away the under bidders. With a list of owners wanting to become involved, it was becoming frustrating to say the least!
Therefore when the opportunity to work with Anthony and Highflyer Bloodstock came about, we jumped at the chance! His knowledge about horse’s – their pedigrees, their family and most importantly their background – is second to none and he has bought some of the greatest horses National Hunt world –Kauto Star, Sprinter Sacre and Many Clouds are just a few to name.
Anthoney advised us to head to Deauville if we wanted to buy value for our owners and after plenty of homework and research with his contact is France, we purchased a lovely gelding called Cilaos Glace which was actually our top preference in the whole sale (although a number of shortlisted horses were scratched after they were vetted.)
As well as his almost perfect conformation, Anthony particularly liked about Cilaos Glace was his breeding as he buys plenty of horses by the Sire Voix Du Nord which have gone onto be decent prospects and the mare was also a winner of five hurdle races. Voix Du Nord won 4 races throughout his career including two Group 1’s and a Group 2 all by the age of 3. As a Sire he is very popular in France and has a 69% strike rate over jumps, not to mention breeding the likes of Taquin Du Seuil (Jojo O’Neil), Vibrato Valtat (Nicholls), Vroum Vroum May (Mullins), and Vaniteux (Henderson) currently doing very well in the UK.
Being a 3-year old, Cilaos Glace will not be ready to race until the 2016/17 jumps season I’m afraid, although had he been a 3 year old he would have probably been out of our budget! We had hoped to buy two horses with Anthony at this sale, a 2yo and a 3yo, but with the older horses we were outbid on both attempts – lots 98 and 194 is you are interested to follow them. However, we have subsequently purchased Capsis Debois from Tattersalls Ireland which interestingly Anthony had viewed at the sale and had given three ticks (he has indeed purchased two half brothers from the Dam in the past so obviously likes the family.)
Cilaos Glace has been broken in (where he showed a great attitude and nice temperament) and is currently enjoying some time out in the paddocks to mature and strengthen. He looks like he will be a fine specimen of a horse and will be ready to join Gary Moore’s yard in the Summer of 2016. We have 10% shares available in this partnership, please contact us if you would like to register your interest, there is already a list! Don’t forget, being French bred Cilaos Glace also qualifies for the attractive French Owners Premiums.
