18th August 2016 Jockey Jamie Moore
A huge well done to Royal Battalion on winning his second race over hurdles! The horse actually won at this meeting last season and tonight he gave an equally thrilling performance and was given a fantastic ride from jockey Jamie Moore.
Royal Battalion had enjoyed a decent break in between races after having a run on the flat, however he returned to hurdles at Fontwell Park and it was very clear to see that jumping is this horse’s forte! He traveled strongly throughout and put in some spectacular leaps. Once the pace quickened on the final circuit, Royal Battalion was still hot on the heels of the leaders and each time Jamie Moore applied the pressure, the horse just kept responding and giving more! We needed just one more huge jump at the last and that’s exactly what we got from Royal Battalion and he stayed on up the hill for his second career win.
Gary and Jamie were delighted with Royal Battalion and feel we are in for some more fun with the horse this season! They feel sticking to hurdles is the way forward with Royal Battalion as “he comes to life when jumping.” Jamie believes that 2 mile 5 furlongs or further is the trip this horse now needs and that a decent 3/4 week break in between races is what puts Royal Battalion spot on for his races as it means we can race him fresh.
Royal Battalion has come out of his race well and Gary will await to see what the handicapper does to us before deciding where we race next. We are already very much looking forward to seeing Royal Battalion back in action!
