21st April 2017, Jockey Adam Beschizza
There isn’t a horse who deserves it more than Sir Robert Cheval as he wins in convincing style at Newbury Racecourse. It was off a career best mark of 97 for the horse and Heart of the South Racing’s highest flat winner – so celebrations all around!
Although Sir Robert Cheval was a little slow to stride once he was on the bridle he traveled sweetly, loved having cover and relished in the space around him once he was pulled wide. The horse showed an encouraging turn of foot and surged clear to win cosily first time out this season! Jockey Adam Beschizza rode a lovely race and feels “smaller fields with plenty of space around him will hugely benefit Sir Robert Cheval.” He also believes we could be in for an exciting 2017 season!
It was also a fantastic training performance from Robert Cowell and full credit must go to him. It is hard to believe this horse won over a mile two seasons ago, yet here we are winning over 5 furlongs (and comfortably too!)
Robert is keen to target 5 furlongs for now and feels if we can find a small field on the right track that Sir Robert Cheval will be winning again soon. We will await our handicap mark before formulating the next plan.
Congratulations to Sir Robert’s Cheval’s owners – what a fabulous day at Newbury you had! It must also be such a thrill for John and Caroline Penny who have potentially bred an 100+ rated gelding!
