10th October 2016, Jockey Martin Harley
After 157 days away from racing, 3-year old Velvet Revolution wins bravely at Windsor much to the sheer delight of his owners and the Heart of the South team. We have enjoyed so many thrilling wins from our horses over the years, but not many come close in terms of emotion, as for whatever reason this horse has won the hearts of us all. Even John Penny had a little tear in his eye which is unheard of trust me!
A son of Pivotal, and half brother to Battersea and Gitano Hernando, for every glimmer of ability well-bred Velvet Revolution has shown there has been an issue, which mainly revolves around his stomach ulcers and lack of appetite. A lot of time and effort (and money!) has gone into getting this horse back to somewhere near his best, so to see him try so hard and appear determined to win was extra special.
It was a great call by trainer Marco Botti to target this race, and it was a superb ride from Martin Harley who showed true horsemanship by sitting quietly, letting the horse creep into the race in his own time and win with just a positive drive from the saddle. Just look at the picture below, Martin is pretty much flat on the horse’s neck urging him forward – fantastic stuff!
After a huge couple of weeks for Heart of the South, with a number of wins including a Book 1 bonus winner and Group 3 runner, this little win on a Monday afternoon at Windsor means just as much to us and owners.
