27th May 2018, Jockey Andrew Tinkler
Many congratulations to connections of Waikiki Waves as he lands a thriller and cements his first win!
This horse was very kindly loaned to Heart of the South Racing by trainer Gary Moore after Owners didn’t experience much luck nor racing with their previous horse, Capsis Desbois. Therefore you can imagine the celebrations at Fontwell Park when Waikiki Waves got his nose in front!
Going into the race Gary was hopeful that the horse would relish the better conditions and land a spot in the winners enclosure, and indeed Waikiki Waves looked up for it as he jig-jogged around the Parade Ring. Jockey Andrew Tinkler rode a beautiful race and it was encouraging to see Waikiki Waves travelling powerfully in his first time blinkers. His jumping was the best we have seen from the horse thus far, and despite things getting a little rough in places Waikiki Waves toughed it out, responding gamely to pressure, and digging deep up the hill to achieve his first win.
Gary was thrilled with the performance and feels there is more to come from Waikiki Waves both over hurdles and fences and over a further distance.
We cannot thank the Gary Moore team enough for all their efforts with this lovely horse and we look forward to enjoying another season of racing with him!
