25th April 2016 Jockey Jamie Spencer
At 18-1 Zambeasy comes home at Windsor to win his fifth race of his career!
It was a thrilling evening and although going into the race trainer Philip Hide was confident of a decent run, it was a competitive field and winning did look tough on paper. However when looking at Zambeasy in preliminaries, it was obvious the horse was feeling well and he looked an absolute picture!
The horse broke from the stalls brilliantly (almost the best he’s ever done) and seemed happy to alternate the lead with Moojaned for the majority of the race, something we haven’t seen from Zambeasy before. The horse was given the perfect ride from Jamie Spencer and when coming into the home straight Jamie pulled the horse to the left, right over to the far side and this proved to be great move. Zambeasy proved just how genuine he is as he found more than the eventual second in the final 20 yards to get up and win just before the line!
We have never seen Zambeasy battle back like that before and he has now added “cracking attitude” to his list of admirable attributes! A big thank you to Jamie Spencer too for giving the horse a well needed breather around the final bend, finding the better ground, giving the horse so much confidence to fight back and of course missing the swans in the home straight! Jamie’s comments post race were “he felt like a good moving horse going to post so I decided I needed to find the better ground. He travelled nicely and was very game at the end.”
