January always seems to be a gloomy month (especially this year given the current circumstances) so there was nothing better to lift the mood than shouting home our Ruby Yeats at Exeter as she gave her all to grind it out and win her 3rd race over hurdles in the Heart of the South Racing colours! This was Ruby’s 3rd win from her last 4 starts – congratulations to her Owners, breeder Sue Somner and lass Ellie!
After an encouraging run in a Class 3 race at Sandown Park in early December, Ruby Yeats went into her race at Exeter in rude health. Trainer Gary Moore felt it was the right track for the mare and despite being dropped in trip he hoped that her stamina would come into play in the finish.
The ground had turned to heavy just before the off and Ruby Yeats found herself towards the rear of the field getting splattered in mud! However jockey Josh Moore was a master in the saddle once again, letting the mare get into a rhythm, encouraging her to keep in contention with the field before bringing her wide in search of the better ground into the home straight. She jumped the last 3 hurdles well and was gaining on the leaders all the time before hitting the front with a furlong to go and rallying so incredibly gamely to keep her neck in front. Well done Ruby!
This was Josh Moore’s 3rd victory on the mare and the pair seem to get on incredibly well. Ruby was the 9th winner Gary Moore has trained in the last 14 days and we are so delighted for the horse and her confidence, and the whole team at home.
Hopefully Ruby Yeats can progress from here and continue with her winning streak!
Despite such horrific ground conditions racecourse photographer Matthew Webb still managed to get some great shots of Ruby Yeats. You can order copies through Matthew directly by emailing him on matthewwebb243@btinternet.com
